What does film score mean

A film score is the original music written specifically to accompany a film, enhancing its narrative and emotional impact. It's typically composed by a professional film composer and consists of instrumental pieces (cues) timed to specific points in the film. Essentially, it's the instrumental background music that supports the story and mood of the movie.

    • Original Music:
      Film scores are unique compositions, not pre-existing songs or pieces. 
       
      Purpose:
      The music is carefully crafted to work in harmony with the visuals, dialogue, and sound effects, creating a specific emotional atmosphere. 
       
  • Timing:
    The cues in the score are timed to synchronize with the events and scenes in the film, often building suspense, highlighting drama, or adding to the emotional depth of a scene. 
     
  • Non-Diegetic:
    In most cases, the film score is non-diegetic, meaning the characters in the film cannot hear the music, it is only for the audience's benefit.

    A tense string section during a chase scene, a romantic melody accompanying a love scene, or an epic orchestral piece during a battle sequence are all examples of film scores. 
     
  • Composers:
